Conspiracy Weary
I spent nearly two hours watching 'Zeitgeist' yesterday. I wouldn't say it was a waste of time, but it was like three conspiracy flicks rolled into one.
The first part was about Christianity, and how it was basically a rip off of all these Pagan and Egytian religions/ folklore etc. I've heard all this before.
Then the second part was about 9/11 being an inside job. It was practically the exact same movie as one I had seen like a year ago...same footage and all.
The only mildly compelling part was about the financial institutions being out to get us. It had a fairly good amount of logic, and the North American Union thing is a little freaky, but they always lose me when they start talking about our forefathers and how they wouldn't have wanted certain things.
It's clear that the first settlers had no idea what the world would be like in 2008. In their time, the goal was to create a free standing country and escape British rule. There was no concept of a world economy.
The whole thing seemed very 'undergrad'. They devoted like 40 minutes to the religion thing, and I was really excited because I thought they'd devote an equal amount of time on Islam...instead they jumped around and never really tied in the whole Christian part to anything else. All it did was call the viewer things like 'brainwashed' and 'dumbed down'. It kinda felt like I was at another smoke filled poetry slam. Don't accuse your listener, freshman.
