I was excited when I saw a commerical yesterday for Subway's new philly cheesesteak. "Finally" I thought, maybe they'd get it right. Their regular steak and cheese is a vapid, sodium filled, bowel twisting abortion. I've spent too many an afternoon with clenched buttcheeks to ever try it again. A few years ago, they tried some other variation of their steak and cheese. It was cubed meat that was probably meant for a stew. Horrible. I guess Subway isn't able to adapt to a changing market. I mean, how many years have we been forced to endure Jared? Hey you may have lost 300 lbs, but you're still a fucking nimrod. But this commercial, man, it was promising. It looked like pounds of meat over flowing the roll, with some kind of mozzarella-ish slightly toasted and melty cheese blanketing something that looked like heaven. But I got my sandwich, and the bread completely covered the "steak" which was just roast beef. And the cheese was el americano, and it was "toasted" which means it might as well have been microwaved. Fuck you Subway, I piss down the throats of your advertising department.

Dude! When are you gonna be around for a Finn Philly!?!?! Seriously!
I thought the Finn Philly was extinct, actually. My buddy Silberman stopped working at Finn's and he was the only one that made them any good.
However...
Last Sunday, after calling you and not getting a response, Jenn and I decided to hit up Finn's for lunch. Little Dan (Silber's diminutive protoge) was working. He always made bad Finn Phillies, so I was gonna order the Cheddar Chicken Melt (which is AWESOME too!). Jenn ordered the Finn Philly and I tried to stop her, but it was weird because the bartender (also a Jen) was right there. She asked why I dont' get them anymore. I explained that nobody makes the Finn Philly like Silberman because he sautees the steak chunks in a pan and everyone else grills them. She said that Little Dan could also sautee them if I wanted.
So, I orded a Finn Philly with the steak sauteed instead of grilled...IT WAS FRIGGIN' AWESOME! Just like before! Maybe better! Dude, it was sick. I'm kicking myself now because I haven't had a Finn Philly in months (since Silber quit), but now I can eat them again! In all their glory! Oh, the glory!
That's what it's all about, spreading the gospel of a good cheesesteak.
The Finn Philly is bangin', probably the second best one I've ever had.
Hey, I saw Ness and Meg colluding over on the Space and they wanna meet up sometime soon. Are you ever going to be free ever again? Can we make an appointment to hang out with you if there ever is a free time ever again? Pencil us in.
Dude, a RyanNessMegJoeD outing sounds awesome with a capital AWE.
I'm free friday night actually...free as a bird. I'm actually meeting Meg for drinks tomorrow night. We should make something happen for friday.
Oh wait, didn't Ness say she was outta town this weekend? Garfenflarber!
Oh, and I'll eat the Subway Cheesesteak. Usually my first choice at Subway. Food doesn't seem to affect my butt as much as most people. I can get away with eating just about anything with no repercussions.
Granted, the Subway Cheesesteak is probably the worst I've ever had. It's still better than eating other Subway stuff though.
She doesn't tell me crap. Who knows. I just happened to look at Meg's myspace today because she sent out a bulletin and I saw Ness over there planning with her to meet up at my apartment. Apparently, they were going to tell me eventually.
Yeah, D'Angelos is the best you can do with a chain type restaurant. When my dad would come to Eastern to visit me for my birthday, he would always ask where I wanted to eat and it was always a steak and cheese from D'Angelos. Damn, I wish we had one downtown.
I suppose that when I'm older I'll have to worry about what food does to me. Maybe I lucked out. Who knows.
I know that if I eat a Big Mac, drink a bunch of Budweiser and then have sex, I get some pretty awesome farts. :)
Top 5 Cheesteaks:
1.) Tori's in Leominster Mass. It's why god made cows. Like 30 slices of American cheese, beef piled high, and served on tin foil.
2.) Finn Philly-Bangin'
3.) D'Angelos -'Number 9' (The teriaki one would be on here if it still existed)
4.) Papa Ginos- That's right, I said it. Sure there's the occasional finger nail or rat jaw in there...but it's still damned good.
5.) Pizzaria Uno's philly steak. Seriously, give it a shot.
I've heard from a Flickr acquaintance that Chili's has a new cheesesteak. He's a wicked foodie and he really liked it.
Here is a picture of it, although I know you can't see Flickr from work:
